Shadow Applique Directions 1.
Trace collar pattern onto base fabric (we used pima wale pique).
Do not cut out at this time. 2.
Trace individual applique pieces onto desired fabric and cut out. 3.
Arrange applique pieces according to the photo. You may wish
to temporarily hold these in place with a light touch
of a glue
stick. (Remember in placing the pieces to allow
for the collar
seam allowances.) 4.
Overlay the entire collar with a sheer fabric (we used Vanessa
voile in white). Other good fabric choices
would be a sheer
batiste or an organdy. Remember: if you
use a color other than
white, it will affect the color of the underlying
applique pieces.
Hand baste the overlay in place. 5.
Outline the individual applique pieces with a tiny running stitch
in an appropriate color (one strand of DMC floss). 6.
Add lace or tatting to the Easter basket (we used a polka dot
fabric for the basket to add interest). 7.
Embroider the Easter eggs as desired. We embroidered several
of the eggs with feather-stitch bands, then added
heirloom daisies
between the bands. One egg has chain-stitch
bands in green, then
a full bullion rose in the center and a sprinkling of
french knots.
Another has chain-stitch bands with a trailing vine
and tiny
bullion rose buds. Use your imagination and
have fun!! 8.
When embroidery is complete, retrace the collar pattern, cut
out and continue with the construction. You
might want to make
the collar detachable to get more use from the yoke
dress. |
