We've used the john john
pattern from Martha Pullen's
Favorite Applique book and
adapted it for a smocked 
insert.  The Children's Corner
"Johnny" pattern would also
work well.  It could also be
done with long legs and worn
with a shirt for later in the
season.

The fabric is a pima cotton
shirting lined with ocean blue
Imperial broadcloth.
